Conversation Cards - Let's talk - 4 WAYS

The “4 Ways” set consists of 24 big and 24 small cards that can be used together or on their own to practise speaking and/or writing.

Each of the big cards has four topics located along the edges of the cards. Each of the small cards’ edges has one of the following: a name of a grammatical structure, an idiomatic expression, a situation, and a collocation.

The students can work individually, in pairs or in small groups. The cards can be selected by the teacher or distributed randomly.

How to use the “4 Ways” set:

The students place a small card on top of a big one. Their task is to produce a sentence or a longer utterance that will combine the elements from both cards. The elements are found along the edges of the cards, e.g a grammatical structure from the small card and a topic from the big card. The task may end when the students have combined the two or when they have done one or more of the remaining three combinations as well. They may then either change the position of the small card and get four new combinations or put a new small card on top of the same big one. They can also keep the small card and replace the big one. Finally, they can proceed with both new cards.
