DEBATES

• As the name suggests you will find 48 topics for debates here
• On each cards there are also 6 ‘tips’ that your students might consider useful when preparing their arguments
• For example

“Having more than one car should not be allowed:

ENVIRONMENT, PROTECT, CONVENIENT, THE EARTH, PROBLEMS, RESPONSIBILITY”

OR

“School and university exams should be banned.

STRESS, TEACHING, QUALITY, KNOWLEDGE, EMPLOYERS, CHANCES”

• By introducing debates you make your students practice important skills like presenting, explaining, discussing, negotiating or turn-taking
• A debate is also a chance to speak in class for students who are not spontaneous.

So it gives an  opportunity for shy and quiet students to share ideas.

• It’s a good mix of individual, pairwork and group activities.
• And last but not least it’s a  great preparation for writing tasks
